Ghostly Chess / Worlds Collide

Photos taken at cemetery.
Both people: Austin

During a cemetery photo shoot, Austin and I found an area where the road (pavement) turned into a dirt road. So I had her pose on the pavement side in her regular outfit, then she changed into an old timey outfit and I re-shot it with her then on the dirt road side.

The thinking behind that was:
Pavement = modern, new, our world
Dirt = Old timey, ghostly side.

I merged the two together later on and created these.

Ghost is interested in our world...

Our world meets ghostly world. The ghost is reluctant to touch it though..

Dipping into our world

-------------------------------------

"Never play a ghost at chess, because they'll always cheat!"

Do they care that they cheat? Maybe feel bad? Never!"

"But if you decide not to listen to my warnings and find yourself playing a ghost in chess, just watch their moves closely!"

"Even when you think you might be winning..."

"Nope, they will always win in the end.."

Lil cheaters. =)

Thanks!

The chess ones were planned out, we brought a chess board with us and inended to do those photos. But the road ones weren't planned. While we were roaming around taking other photos [seen here] I saw a pavement road that turned into dirt and that "modern person meets ghostly person" idea came to mind.

Setting up wise, the hardest part was getting in the same area. Because we shot the "modern" and "old timey" shots about an hour apart. We did the chess board at another location. So instead of having her change for the road shot, then change again for the chess shot, we shot the "modern" road shot first, then went to shoot the modern chess shots. Then she changed and we did the ghost chess shots, then came back and finished with the ghost shots of the road.

So since we had changed locations, and it was an hour later, the road scene wasn't exactly the same as the modern shots we took (but I tried to get the tripod in the same spot as close as I could), and the sun was going down so the lighting was a little different.

But really, that kind of worked because, by having the lighting different and the scene off some, it added to the "ghostly" look and feel. Gravestones were off from their original spots (so they became see through) and the lighting being different added to the "other world" look and feel.

Worked out nicely. =D
